Comparison of Five Different Treatment Approaches of Mandibular Keratocystic Odontogenic Keratocyst (OKC): A Retrospective Recurrence Analysis of Clinical and Radiographic Parameters

Abstract The odontogenic keratocyst (OKC) is a benign but locally aggressive growing lesion that infiltrates the bone and surrounding tissue. It characterized by high rates of recurrence along with rapid growth. Different forms partly successful treatment therapies are reported. retrospective study at hand examined 114 patients OKC treated over period 20 years. Data extracted includes gender, age, location, previous for lesion, surgery, outcome, rate follow-up. 63.1% underwent cystectomy, 22.5% cystectomy carnoy solution, 7.2% curettage, 4.5% cystostomy 2.7% partial resection. In this study, no significant differences could be observed regarding surgical method. Most recurrences occurred 91.9% in mandible an average size 5.5 cm 2 increased women. Within mean follow-up time 3.6 years was 36.9%, on after 36 months. Recurrences were most frequently diagnosed age 31–50 (43.9%). Despite numerous studies, there still unanimous opinion effective therapy OKC. However, precise resection can facilitated preoperative 3D-imaging virtual planning.
